Policies that support safe, caring days

A readable overview of our approach. The complete handbook remains available for full details and forms.

Our approach to care

We provide warm, play-based care with consistent routines, respectful guidance, and opportunities for physical, social, emotional, creative, and intellectual growth. Families and educators work together to support each child.

Children and families are welcomed without discrimination. We respect cultural diversity, family traditions, and individual needs.

Privacy, consent, and photos

Family information

Child and family records are stored securely and shared only with authorized staff, with consent, or when required for safety, licensing, child protection, or law.

Photos and trips

Parents select separate photo permissions for classroom records, private updates, and public use. Local walks require enrollment consent; larger trips or vehicle transport require additional permission.

Health, nutrition, and medication

Please keep children home when they are too ill to participate or may place others at risk. Staff contact a parent or emergency contact when a child becomes ill at the centre. Families must keep allergy, dietary, medical, and immunization information current.

Medication is given only with the required authorization and instructions. Food and drink support children’s developmental needs and account for allergies and documented care plans.

Safety and positive guidance

Safe release

Children are released only to an authorized parent, guardian, or approved pickup person. Staff may ask for photo identification. Current court orders and pickup restrictions must be provided to management.

Behavioural guidance

Educators model, redirect, and teach developmentally appropriate behaviour. Physical punishment, degrading treatment, and unsupervised separation are prohibited.

Active play and screen time

Daily indoor and outdoor play is part of the program, with outdoor play adjusted for weather and safety. Children are supervised and staff assess the play area before use.

Screen time is not part of the regular infant or toddler routine. Programs of three hours or less do not include screen time in the daily routine. For ages 3–5, supervised, educational screen use is limited to 30 minutes or less per day and no more than 1.5 hours per week.

Closures and communication

The centre may close when weather, utilities, public health, staffing, or facility conditions prevent safe operation. Families are notified as soon as reasonably possible. Monthly fees continue during closures unless management communicates otherwise.

Parents can speak with staff at drop-off or pickup, and arrange a separate meeting for longer or sensitive conversations.
