Everyday procedures, made clear

The main steps families and staff use from enrollment through daily care and emergencies.

Before the first day

  1. Complete the signed registration package, contract and rate agreement, and consent forms.
  2. Provide current emergency contacts, authorized pickup details, and applicable medical, allergy, immunization, and care-plan information.
  3. Pay the registration fee and deposit according to the fee schedule.
  4. Plan a gradual entry with staff; the suggested first-week schedule may be adjusted for the child.

Arrival, pickup, and daily preparation

What to bring

A labelled water bottle, weather-appropriate clothes, needed bottles or food items, and any approved comfort item. Keep spare clothes and supplies at the centre; take bedding home weekly for washing.

Pickup

Tell staff about alternate pickup arrangements. An unfamiliar authorized person may need photo ID. Sign the child out when leaving, and arrive by 5:30 p.m. for full-day care.

Illness and medication

  1. Keep the child home if too ill to participate or if their condition may put others at risk. Tell staff about contagious illness and relevant household illness.
  2. If a child becomes ill while in care, staff supervise them in a quiet, clean area and contact the parent or emergency contact for pickup.
  3. Give medication directly to staff in its original, labelled container with the required permission form. Staff document each dose.

Emergency and evacuation

Staff follow posted fire and earthquake plans, account for children, take emergency records and supplies, contact emergency services when needed, and notify families after children are safe.

On-site meeting point: Playground beside the east building, at the corner of 135A Street and 77 Avenue, when safe to use.

Off-site evacuation site: Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara Sahib Surrey, 8115 132 St, Surrey, BC V3W 4N5.

Incidents and concerns

Staff provide first aid and record minor incidents, then inform families. For an injury, illness, or reportable incident, staff protect the child’s safety, contact a parent or emergency contact immediately, and notify licensing or the medical health officer within the required time frame.

If a child is missing, staff immediately check the premises and nearby areas while supervising all other children, then contact the parent and emergency services if the child is not found. Child protection concerns are reported directly to the proper authority.

Questions and changes

Keep contact, pickup, medical, and court-order information current. Speak to the team about a child’s needs, care plan, or policy question.
